Yes! Got my first Microsoft Certification, 70-536 – Microsoft .NET Framework – Application Development Foundation.
After a few weeks of hard learning and getting 1 or 2 evenings a week lessons the practice test scores went up from arount 400 to 800 points. When taking the final test my score was 815. Which is quite nice if I may say myself.
Now it is time to learn some more for the next exam: 70-562. Due in a few weeks!
Yes, got some some new domainnames. Time to get on with building some new sites. After looking around a bit to easy to set up websites. I off course found WordPress, which can be used as a normal pretty static website without all the blogging stuff and still look very nice. These are easy to set up too.
Next I found Drupal. Tried to set it up on my NAS (Synology) and after I got past the mysql troubles with creating a new database the setup was not that diffecult. Only after the setup the default themes are quite ugly. It took quite a while to futher configurate the site to show just the site and not “this site needs configuration”. This is not a keeper for me.
Joomla, this one I’m going to try and install this evening. Some time back I allready worked with this one (version 1.4 or something) so I couldn’t be too hard. Theming is quite easy in Joomla so it ‘should’ be easy. Looking forward to it!
Got three sites to set up, two bands, This Ship Is Sinking and Incompetent Bastards and a website for the people in the building I live in.
It has taken a while, but finally I’m back to blogging.
A month ago or so, there was a water leak in my house and the NAS running the website got damaged. After this a change to a new ISP didn’t help either. Changed from Cable Internet (22 mbit down, 3 mbit up) to Fiber (30 mbit down, 30 mbit up). Due to the change I got a new modem which was also a router. That was inconvenient since I allready had a router with everything nicely set up.
After a while changing settings and updating DNS records, www.shiftdel.nl is back online!
My blog is ready blogging, but still, it is missing something. The view is clear, not too much information, high contrast, so it is easy to read.
The sidebar, thats the problem. It seems quite empty now that I have removed the blogroll. I removed the blogroll because I don’t have any static links to post there.
Not sure what to put there, but I think it will be something like the profile information on Twitter and a few last posts on Twitter. This because of my blograte. I am not posting very much (yet) so to have changing content on the page, Twitter will come in handy.
As it happens, if you have your own webserver, using wordpress then of the settings make it diffecult to use the website while you are at home.
After setting the right URL for the blog in the WordPress configuration, the blog was no longer available for me at home. My router and server somehow do not work perfectly together. The blog wasn’t accessible through the local address in my network and the site URL was somehow redirected to nowhere. Probably the host header was changed. Because there are more websites running from my server I am using virtual hosts which look into the host header for which website to redirect to.
It was a long time ago but I had to edit the hosts file of my laptop. This was not the first time, but the last time was several years ago. Never thought I needed to do that again.
Took a while to find the file, but I finally found it here: “C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc”
After that it was just a simple adding the local ip adres from the web-server with the website URL following to make it work.
192.168.1.100 www.shiftdel.nl
Now the blog is available to me when I am at home so I can make blogposts. When I have the time that is…
My Server is a Synology DS207+, this NAS actually works excellent in hosting for me!
First of all, I would have to start redecorating here.
The default skin from wordpress should be replaced by a fancier one. But I am not sure which yet. Around the web I’m seeing quite a lot of different skins which would suffice, but are just right for me. Probably I’ll end up with a minimalistic skin in which I will have edited just a little bit.
And after that is done I’ll try to post usefull, yes I will try to, posts about SQL in Oracle like PL/SQL, C# .Net stuff and maybe later on a bit about Silverlight as well.
